Educator Professional Development Day

Cornell University, Ithaca NY

March 20, 2009

This coming year, the Associate Provost for Outreach at Cornell will welcome more than 1,000 teachers and instructional staff to campus for approximately 80 workshops presented by faculty, staff, and graduate student volunteers. In past years, participants expressed great satisfaction with the quality of the professional development experience we provided and gratitude for the opportunity to spend a day enjoying the campus and its facilities.

The TST BOCES theme for the upcoming Educator Professional Development Day is "Empowering All Learners for the 21st Century." All grade levels and school subjects will be represented. Workshops will enhance teachers' knowledge of a subject they teach, provide engaging materials and activities, and/or give them a deeper understanding of their students and how they learn.

Please reference the Professional Development Day flyer to learn more about the March 20th event.

Teachers may register through TST-BOCES My Learning Plan for workshops may last either 2 hours or 5 hours.

Wilson Laboratory Open House - 2005 & 2007

2005 Wilson Lab Open House

On June 11th 2005, a special Wilson Laboratory Open House was organized by LEPP as part of an ongoing effort to encourage the general public to tour the Lab and learn about the fascinating science that takes place here. As announced to the public during the opening remarks, the science at the Lab depends critically on the formula E = mc2. This recognition of Einstein's contributions to the research conducted at Wilson thoughtfully meshed the celebration of the World Year of Physics with our Open House festivities.

The Laboratory was open to visitors for over four hours, during which time over 600 attendees wandered the hallways and were both entertained and educated by Wilson staff members. A variety of demonstrations and hands-on activities were hosted by staff volunteers working at stations placed throughout the facility. Guided tours of the LEPP and CHESS research facilities were conducted on a continual basis. Free refreshments and door prizes rounded out the day's events.

Many thanks are extended to the efforts of the Wilson Lab volunteers as well as our numerous visitors. The hard work and enthusiasm of all people involved made the Wilson Lab Open House a tremendous success!
