Bazarov wins Particle Accelerator Science and Technology Award

The IEEE this week announced that Prof. Ivan Bazarov, Department of Physics, is a winner of the 2015 Particle Accelerator Science and Technology Award, "for contributions to science and technology of energy recovery linacs and high-brightness photo injectors". Bazarov's research includes high brightness photo injectors, low emittance photocathodes, and parallel algorithms for accelerator optimization. He led the design and commissioning of the Cornell Photoinjector, which holds records for both high current and low emittance.

The award, which is presented by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society, recognizes "individuals who have made outstanding contributions to accelerator science and technology." Two awards are presented annually, and at least one is given to someone early in his or her career. The other 2015 winner, Sergey Belomestnykh, also spent 17 years at CLASSE before assuming his current position as Superconducting RF group leader at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
