CORNELL LABORATORY FOR ACCELERATOR-BASED SCIENCES AND EDUCATION

Experimental Cosmology

144 pixel wide and high imageCLASSE's particle astrophysics group is focusing on the development of new instrumentation to study the formation and evolution of the universe through precision measurements of microwave radiation. Past measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) provided an exquisite picture of the early universe, which combined with astronomical observations at other wavelengths led to strong evidence that we live in a dark energy and dark matter dominated universe; however, fundamental aspects of the universe are still not understood and are being investigated by a group of scientists and students, participating in the data analysis and development of the Atacama Cosmology Telescope, as well as technology R&D for other related projects.
