One important development in theoretical physics in the last decade has been the finding of examples of dual gauge and gravity theories. The gauge/gravity duality together with supergravity backgrounds in flux compactifications of string theories and powerful tools in supersymmetric gauge theories provide a setting both to probe the geometries of strings and to study the nonperturbative dynamics of gauge theories. The string geometries dictate the gauge theories in four dimensions and the dynamics of the gauge theories knows about the geometries of strings. I am currently investigating intricate relations in the connections between the nonperturbative dynamics of gauge theories and the background geometries of string theories. I am also working on constructing gravity backgrounds which might allow to probe stringy signatures left over from the early ages of the universe and have interests in mechanisms for supersymmetry breaking and in dual string descriptions of QCD.
