28Jan2005 Report This is the end of our third week in Boston/Cambridge. This past Sunday we had 26+ inches of snow and another 5 or so inches mid-week. Boston only averages about 62" a year, so that's a lot for one week! Candace got out three days to ski, two of them at Walden Pond. It was also a cold week for Boston, with three nights getting below 10 degrees F. I had 3 gamma and 2 proton treatments this week, so I have now had 8 gamma and 6 proton in the three weeks, meaning I am 35% done. Swallowing is still going OK. My neck looks sun-burned and I do have cream to apply daily to help with that. Unfortunately I have developed weakness and pain in my right arm, the former of which has continued to worsen as the week progressed. I can no longer raise my arm to shoulder height, for example. I have to brush my teeth left-handed. Eating with my right hand is becoming difficult, as is pulling on sweaters and pulling up trousers. The doctor here is "at a loss" to explain this development based on radiation exposure alone. He also does not know that he can do anything about it, other than look into physical therapy for the rest of the arm functions so that I retain maximal strength and flexibility.
